The God of Small Things

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..." - Zech 4:10.

There's a tender sweetness to these early days of Glorious Ones as pillars and foundations are slowly being laid in place.

There's just something oh so sweet about the early days, where for every 1 newcomer that visits the ministry, it feels like a 100. Where for God to stir in individuals and cause change in random hearts feels like a wholesale revival is going on. Where to see the Holy Spirit show up during ministry times and move upon particular people feels as supernatural as any sign and wonder. Amidst this joy in my heart, the revelation is dawning on me that to the Lord, there's a purity, glory, and innocence in the early days that is pleasing to Him, especially as such things can be easily lost later in the midst of success and growth. In as much as we like to make God out to be the God of big things, big stadium filled revivals, entire nations coming to Christ-He is as much the God of small things, the individual unbeliever coming to know the Lord, the individual believer maturing into the image of Christ, the individual and singular victories. In other words, the small things.

Quite honestly, before I came over, although there were already good things going on in this community, I was not looking forward to the aspect of almost starting from scratch again-especially coming from a dynamic ministry back in Seoul. And true to that reality, it's not been all easy leading 2 major ministries in the youth and young adults. But to my pleasant surprise, by the grace of God, I find I'm loving these days and wouldn't trade it for anything! These are the days-where anything and everything is just so glorious. I pray and hope that this mentality would mark the rest of my life, especially in growth and success, and not just these times.

The root of frustration and discontentment of later days is primarily that we lose the wonder and joy of the early days. No matter where you're at, if only we were to share His perspective and rejoice with Him over the small things, it would change everything-our approach to ministry, to people, and to life!  Every season can be a sweet season, if we will let it.

May we be reminded that the joy of the Lord is our strength-especially His fondness over the small things.

""Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..." - Zech 4:10.
